About

The San Francisco Youth Baseball League (SFYBL) is the largest and oldest youth baseball league in San Francisco.

The SFYBL is a partnership between SF FLAME (San Francisco Fire Department) and the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department and is run by a board of seven partner and volunteer commissioners.

Player registration for SFYBL begins in late January/early February. The season begins in March and ends in late May/early June with Summer travel-team opportunities for 10U, 12U, and 14U kids who competed in the league that season. Players practice and play games on 28 San Francisco Recreation and Parks fields throughout San Francisco.

SFYBL was designed to give as much playing time to kids as possible while fostering an appreciation and love for America’s pastime. Teams are divided into four grade-based divisions: Kindergarten and 1st grade T-Ball, 1st through 3rd grade coach pitch, and three age-based PONY divisions: Mustang (9-10), Bronco (11-12), and Pony (13-14).

SFYBL is team based. There is no draft where your child is assigned to a different team each season. In SFYBL, your child can play on a team with his/her friends, classmates, etc. season after season.
Unlike other youth baseball leagues, base stealing and leading off are standard in Bronco and Pony PONY divisions.

In addition, the diamond sizes for the Bronco and Pony divisions are larger (Bronco: 50/70, Pony: 54/80) than the 45/60 size used by other youth leagues for the same age groups. We believe these differences better prepare developing baseball players for potential high school baseball should they have the desire.

To qualify to play in the San Francisco Youth Baseball League, a child must either reside in or attend school within the city of San Francisco.
